Academic CV Templates is a small shop selling editable CV and cover letter templates for academics, with free guides alongside them.

The site exists because most CV advice online is written for corporate applications and quietly wrong for academic ones. A hiring panel at a university reads a CV differently from a recruiter at a firm: it wants publications before employment, full referee details, and evidence of funding, and it will happily read four pages to find them. Advice that says "keep it to one page" or "add a personal brand statement" costs academic applicants interviews.

The guides here set out the conventions we build our templates around: UK and US formats, career stages from PhD student to professor, and the move from academia into industry. They are free, and they are complete. You can follow every recommendation with a blank Word document and never spend a penny here.

The templates are for people who would rather not fight with tab stops and section ordering themselves. Each one comes as a Word template and document, a LaTeX file for Overleaf, and a BibTeX file for references, with the conventions already in place. They are sold on Etsy as instant downloads, priced from £6.

What this is not

This is not a CV-writing or review service. We do not write documents for you, offer feedback on drafts, or promise interviews. Nobody can promise interviews. If you want a human to review your CV, your university careers service will usually do it for free, and we would rather you used them than paid someone online.
